You are perfectly right when you say that sometimes less is more. The outfit of this man is so simple that it looks very sophisticated (but with no exageration. I also like his hair and moustache, somehow he has something that reminds of Alain Delon. I like this type of people because it seems like they don't belong to an era as they both embody past and present.
Fabulous look on the top half, but I'm not crazy about the skinny pants. They're a bit jarring with the classic style of the rest. They also make him look a bit knock kneed.
