Well Kept...Shot by Kuson Parson

A new year is a time for new goals. For some, this may be weight loss, career driven or spirituality. But, of course if you're following this site your concerned with menswear. My appreciation and attention to detail has grown tremendously since I started documenting style. Before my main concern was to achieve a look without much thought of fit and quality. Now, it's vice versa, I think about everything, maybe even too much. Style is like learning a language. The more you educate yourself and pay attention to it the more your taste grows.

For this look, I wanted to focus on the Billy Reid blazer which has a great check print. The navy H&M trousers, grey Zegna shirt, brown Brixton hat, N.D.C shoes and Brera watch are there to support the jacket. My style philosophy: one focal piece, supporting pieces, and accessories. Similar to how a film is structured with a star, supporting actors and extras. Hope that makes sense. But, the only thing I would change about my outfit is the knit tie. I really wanted to wear a dark brown tie but surprisingly I don't own one.

What are your style resolutions for 2013? Are you keeping your style as is? or looking to switch things up?

P.S If you're a women, feel free to share your thoughts as well.

  1. resolution: Using the principle in the Simone Marchetti interview, not being afraid of what people could think. Not only in terms of choosing clothes but also in terms of being creative in other areas of life. Being in college, I would have to budget it all well and somehow choose pieces that could work interchangeably to get the most value for my money. I'm just curious to know some style tips about what to do or how/where to shop to achieve a great look and still have it all be affordable. Or maybe that's naïve.

  2. It's not naïve at all. As you can see my trousers are H &M but I paired them with great leather cap toe shoes. Shoes always elevate your look. Invest in accessories then shop at places like uniqlo, hm, top man, etc

Hope that helps and thanks for sharing your thoughts.

    1. Thank you for the quick reply and the kind tweet about liking bloggers' commentaries. The advice is definitely helpful, especially about accessorizing. Will check uniqlo and top man out, haven't heard about them yet. Keep up the great work and the incredible pictures! Definitely a source for inspiration.

  3. I think beside the blazer, my favorite element about this outfit is the beautiful hat! I love the texture on the blazer, I'm a sucker for knitsy and warm snuggelish fabrics and textures. I'm also growing a tremendous love towards hats. I think this year I'm looking desperately to change my basic style, I go to college everyday so I stick with basics, the easy getout, but I so want to earn a little extra cash, and fill my wardrobe with all kinds of clothes and let go of my imagination to create more and more outfits everyday!

    1. Thanks from your comment. I watch a lot of old black & white movies and they guys always wore nice hats, so that's what inspired me. I like your style resolution because its practical and very achievable.

  12. I love the tie with the jacket, it's just a little off, but that gives it the right touch of playfulness/character. I like how you always look posh but totally relaxed and approachable. It's a way of dressing that is old fashioned and just so lovely to behold.

For the New Year, I want to play more with pattern-mixing. I always want to try it, and then chicken out, thinking it works for others but not so much for myself. As a woman, I'm drawn to retro and very feminine styles, with Spanish or Italian influences.

    1. Thanks for your kind words Stephanie. I really appreciate that.

When don't right, mixing prints could be fun. Start with muted and dark colors until you feel comfortable to wear something bold.

  13. My resolution is to make the transition from street wear to a sharper, more sophisticated look whilst maintaining devil-may-care, rebellious attitude that makes street wear so fun and vital. This could be a train wreck but I know it's gonna be interesting.
